Why PatangDori.com?
We buy from the same Bareilly and Surat coaters we have used since 2009. You get the batch they made, not whatever a wholesaler had left over.
Not sure whether you want 6 cord or 9? Message us on WhatsApp. Someone who actually flies will answer, usually the same day.
Every pin code, no minimum order, and no delivery charge bolted on at the last step. The price on the product page is the price you pay.
What is kite manja?
Manja is the coated thread used for kite fighting. Plain cotton thread is passed through a paste of finely ground glass suspended in a rice-and-gum binder, then dried, usually in the sun and stretched between poles. The coating is what gives the line its cutting edge.
Cord count describes how many cotton strands are twisted together to form the thread. Six cord is the usual starting point for casual flying; nine and twelve cord are what tournament flyers reach for when they expect a fight.
Where to get the best kite manja, and what makes a good one?
A good manja holds its edge through repeated cuts rather than going blunt after the first few, stays flexible instead of turning brittle, and does not shed coating all over your hands. That comes down to the quality of the glass grind and the skill of the coater, which is why we buy direct from named workshops in Bareilly and Surat rather than from wholesalers.
India’s first online kite shop
Kite flying is one of the few things that still makes people put their phones down. It is also, in most of the world, remarkably hard to shop for. We started PatangDori.com in 2009 to fix that: good products, honest descriptions, sensible shipping.
Our kite collection: sizes and styles
From addhi and pauni patang for everyday flying, through bana and cheel fighter kites, up to large decorative kites and full kite-making kits. Tissue paper over aged bamboo spine, handcrafted in Rampur and Ahmedabad.
For international orders
We offer bulk packages and custom quotes for kite festivals in the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, France and beyond. Special dor for kite fighting competitions is available on request. Message us with your country and quantity.
Questions flyers ask
Straight answers, no sales talk
Is 9 cord stronger than 6 cord manjha?
Yes. Cord count is the number of cotton strands twisted into the thread, so 9 cord is thicker and takes more pull than 6 cord. Most casual flyers use 6, tournament flyers use 9 or 12.
Where do you ship, and what does it cost?
Free shipping to every pin code in India with no minimum order. International orders to the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and elsewhere are quoted individually.
What is a charkhi or firki?
The spool the manja is wound onto. We sell empty wooden and plastic charkhi separately so you can transfer thread between reels or replace a damaged one.
Will the price change at checkout?
No. Taxes are already in the price you see, delivery within India is free, and nothing is added at the last step. A GST invoice comes with every order as standard.
